The 2-Week Countdown
Posted in Racing by Brian SchaningIts finally that time, 2 weeks til raceday for Ironman Wisconsin. This event has been my focus all season and its hard to believe that its finally here. It seems like just yesterday that the season started. During these 2 weeks the training is cut down and the rest is increased, and man does it feel good. Who could remember that only doing 1 workout a day or taking a day off completeley (gasp) could feel so good!! During these 2 weeks I will be moving again back to La Crosse for my final 2 semesters of PT class (I have been living in Sheboygan for the past month on a clinical rotation).
This year I definatley feel more prepared for the Ironman (my second one), as I have focused my training for this event specifically, and have had to cut out doing some shorter distance races. My running has come a long way and I have been injury free throughout the year (knock on wood). My goal is to break 10hrs, and qualify for Hawaii in 2007. Although the race cannot come soon enough for me, my legs are saying otherwise- as they are still recovering from a huge effort last weekend in which I did my longest brick and run of the season. So now it is time to rest and hope that all the hard work over the past year has payed off.
I want to give a shout out to both my parents, sister stephanie and girlfriend mel for putting up with me throughout the triathlon season. As even though triathlon is an individual sport, without the support of family and friends my accomplishments would not be possible. (I mean who else would bike along for water (and moral) support on a 20 mile run??). Thanks again, all your help and support means a lot to me.
