Potholes

Posted in Injuries by Brian Schaning

While on a training ride yesterday I managed to hit a nice pothole that I didn’t see on one of the great roads of Sheboygan county which was big enough to flip me over my handlebars. Needless to say I am a little shaken up, have a good amount of road rash, and a swollen hip. This is not great timing for an accident as I will be leaving friday to head to Michigan for Ironman 70.3 steelhead, and the upcoming weeks are a key training period in my preparations for Ironman Wisconsin in September.

I was hoping to have a strong race this weekend following a good race at Racine, but that little pot hole did a good amount of damage to my confidence (and my skin). But I have been taking some anti-inflammatories as well as icing as much as possible. All I can do is try to bounce back stronger than before. I guess accidents happen and I just have to move on. (At least no one saw me crash). This is also a reminder to all to wear your helmets, it saved my head from looking like my hip or back.

The first picture is my back below my shoulder blade, the second one is my hip.
