Post Race Meal: 72 oz. Steak, Shrimp Cocktail, Salad, Baked Potato, & Dinner roll

Posted in Racing by

On the way home the Buffalo Springs Lake ½ Ironman last night, I felt like I needed a little redemption as I did not have my best race.  So Nikki and the boys and I stopped at the Big Texan in Amarillo, TX and I attempted the Big Texan Challenge.  If I could eat a 72 oz. steak (4 lbs. 10 oz), shrimp cocktail, salad, baked potato, & dinner roll in under an hour, then it was free, otherwise it would be $72.00.  I did it in 47 minutes and 33 seconds and now I am permanently part of the world famous 72 oz. steak club!  Attached are some pictures, before, during, after, etc.  The worst part was sitting in the car for 6 more hours on the way back to Denver…ugh….DSCN0984.JPG

I remember back in the old days, when you had trouble keeping one bratwurst down. You’ve come a long way, my friend.

    Meal of Champion’s!!!

Although, when you told me of your plans to eat that “THING”…. I wasn’t completey convinced you were actually going to do it.

    Hey Tim,
I couldn’t help but wonder what happened in yesterday’s race since you usually win the BSLT, so I checked your blog to see if you wrote about it. Well, sorry it wasn’t your best day…but still not too shabby for a bad day.

Anyway, I got a laugh out of your “Big Texan” story. That’s hilarious. My aunt worked there a long time ago. When I was a bike racer, we once stopped there on the trip home to NM from the “Hotter ‘n Hell” bike race in Wichita Falls (early ’90s!). Six of us skinny bike racers took the challenge at once. They just about kicked us out because we all did it with no problem at all. They were sure something was wrong.

The shrimp cocktail is a new feature though. Back then it was cornbread.

You should post the result here on your bio page. That’s a good time.

You just may become a Texan yet.

    Tim,
That is awesome. You’re the man!

That is a long way from Culver’s after the Lake Geneva Triathlon!

After working in Amarillo a bit and eating there…all I can say is ‘geez’.
I agree with Moseley – post that time.
