Grateful…..

As I sit in my office putting the finishing touches on my work day, I cannot help but to think of how fortunate I am.  This past weekend was one of the greatest experiences of my life.  I am literally living my dream, absolutely humbled by the opportunity that has presented itself.  I consider myself brand new to the sport of triathlon having just completed my fourth racing season.  I, like many of us was “hooked” with the very first race I ever completed.  Each year I have tried to increase the intensity of my race calendar as well as build upon my training.  Bruce Gennari starting coaching me in 2008 and I knew I wanted to eventually attain the success that he has accomplished in his 20+ years of racing.  The more I traveled with Bruce, the more Timex team members I was introduced to.  We started in Portland, OR at the 2008 USAT National Championships.  I had the good fortune of meeting Roger Thompson, Chris Thomas, Ian Ray and Cindi Bannink.  The following summer Bruce and I traveled to Rhode Island for the 70.3 in Providence.  This time I actually got to see the Timex truck and actually got my bike tuned up for free!! (By the way, that was the very best bike tune up I have ever had!)  Again, I got to see Chris and Ian and Cindi but also met Tristan and Andrew Hodges.  I could see that there was a special bond between the team members and I wanted to be a part of it.  I mean, the team lived in completely seperate regions of the country yet the camaraderie was instantaneous.  Watching Cindi qualify for Kona was an incredible experience and I was so happy for her (even though I didn’t really know her!)  Even back in Nashville, Bruce was always talking about his Timex teammates and how much fun he had.  I identify Bruce as being the top male triathlete in the state of  TN (even though he has a little bit of grey hair!) and any direction that he gave me along the way-I TOOK.  Bruce recommended that I apply for the team and to keep applying until I made it.  You see, I have done well in our sport and have improved every year but simply do not have the raw talent that so many of you possess.  If there is anything that I have accomplished in this sport over the last 4 years, it has been by stubborn persistence and determination!  When I got the call from Tristan (the Monday before camp) I could not believe my ears.  After spending the weekend with my newest 49 friends, all of my thoughts and beliefts surrounding the Timex Multisport Team were confirmed.  Thank you all for making me feel like a part of the family and I look very much forward to getting to know you all better in the years to come.  I may not be the fastest out there, but I promise you that I will always do my best to represent the goodwill of our name and sponsors as well as our sport.  My first race of the year is the Boston Marathon, I hope I see some of you there.
