Blueseventy Helix First Fit and Swim Test
Posted in Training by Dave Erickson
In 2012, Blueseventy further enhanced their flagship Helix wetsuit with subtle pattern refinements and considerable material improvements. This year their Helix suit is designed to further impress with unparalleled flexibility while strategic materials and panels maximise buoyancy throughout the suit. The 2012 Helix Men’s Full Suit retails for $650.00 (click here).
In the video below, I try on the Helix for the very first time. I’m wearing a size Medium. I’m approximately 5’11 and weigh 185 pounds. I found the suit to be very tight and snug around my legs and a little difficult to get my arms in but once I did it was surprisingly comfortable, especially around my shoulders. There’s was virtually no restriction with my swim stroke despite the initial challenge of getting the suit on. To do over again, I might go with a men’s Large. That said, it was super easy and fast to get off. After swimming a few hundred yards in the pool, I made sure to rinse it off in the shower. My first open water swim event is coming up in two weeks, Rev3 PDX Olympic followed by Ironman 70.3 Lake Steven the week after. I plan to test it out two more times before race day.
